University of Florida Nicholas Ducharme-Barth from Fredericksburg, Virginia, is in the fisheries and aquatic sciences program within the School of Forest Resources and Conservation. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with research focusing on using spatial information associated with the Vessel Monitoring System data to gain a better understanding of the commercial reef fish fishery in the Gulf of Mexico. NEWS, NOTES & GEAR Nicholas Ducharme-Barth Six graduate students from Florida universities got a boost to their education, thanks to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation. Established in 2010 through a partnership between Florida Sea Grant and the GHOF, the scholarships recognize grad students whose research focuses on the biology, ecology, habitat or management of fish in the state. Since its inception, 41 students have received $194,000 in scholarships. The 2017 recipients are Nicholas Ducharme-Barth from University of Florida, Meaghan Faletti and Elizabeth Herdter from University of South Florida, and Bryan Keller, Brian Moe and Cheston Peterson from Florida State University. Each student will receive a $5,000 scholarship to support their individual academic programs as well as a certificate designed and signed by Dr. Guy Harvey himself.
